The three-tier system is the backbone of alcohol distribution in the US. Tier one are the producers. These are breweries, wineries, distilleries, or anyone creating a new alcohol brand in the US. Tier two are the distributors, also known as wholesalers. They act as the middlemen, buying from producers and selling to retailers. Tier three is the retailers. And this includes bars, restaurants, liquor stores, and supermarkets where you buy your drinks. Of course, the final destination for these products is in the hands of legal drinking age consumers.
